On January 5, 2013, the Saudi Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) announced a new policy which imposes a further ban on imports of refrigeration appliances using refrigerants R22 and R123, including freezers, air conditioners, refrigerators, and compressors, on the basis of the previous ban on the use of refrigerants R11 and R12.

MoCI will announce the transition period for the new policy in the near future, and Intertek will give further notice on this.

Note: The old models using banned refrigerants but had already been placed on the Saudi market are not subject to the new policy.

Intertek has provided SASO certification services for over a decade. In addition to assisting the Saudi Government in establishing a complete certification system and manufacturers in obtaining certification for their products, Intertek communicates manufacturers’ opinions to the Saudi Government, actively serving as a bridge of communication between them. Type registration is currently the most common certification, and its scope covers safety and energy consumption.
