European Union Published New Version Standard for Pushchairs and Prams
On April 20, 2022, the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) issued a new version of standard EN 1888-1:2018+A1:2022 for pushchairs and prams to replace the old version EN 1888-1:2018. All national standards conflicting with that shall be repealed not later than October 31, 2022.
The main updates are as follows:
- Clauses 3.4 and 3.23 revised the definition of integrated platform and reversible handle;
- Clause 5.2.3 adds small head probe;
- Section 6 revised chemical hazards. The new version requires that all the parts and components that are accessible to the mouth of the child shall meet with the migration of elements requirements of EN71-3;
- Clause 8.3.5.1 revised the requirements of unintentional release of locking mechanism;
- Clause 8.4 revised the requirements and test methods of entanglement hazards;
- Clause 8.5.2.3 revised the requirements and test methods of bite test;
- Clause 8.9.3 stability hazards due to the position of swiveling wheels removed in new version;
- Clause 8.10.6 adds setup of adjustable handle, seat unit and reversible handle;
- Clauses 10.2.5 and 10.2.9 revised the warning for children under 6 months and pictogram for maximum wight of each child.
