Based on the edition of UL 1082, 6th Ed. Rev. Mar. 27, 2015, two new editions “6th Ed. Rev. Sep. 02, 2016” and “UL 1082 6th Ed. Rev. Sep. 29, 2016” had been published in Sep., 2016.

Effective date for edition Sep. 29, 2016 is October 31, 2017.

The brief of updating are listed as below

1. The products shall comply with UL4200A when incorporate with lithium cell(s), and the cell having a diameter of 32 mm maximum and with a diameter greater than its height, but not applicable to an appliance that intended only to be mounted above a countertop.

2. Added ｉｎｓｅｒｔion/withdrawal test for cordless electric kettle:

• 2.1 The kettle is placed on its stand and withdrawn 10,000 times with current flowing;
• 2.2 The test is continued for an additional 10,000 times without current flowing.

3. Added surge immunity test IEC 61000-4-5 (as applicable) for appliances that with an off position obtained by electronic disconnection, or with a stand-by mode, or incorporating a protective electronic circuit.

4. Supplement SB was revised to expand its coverage to include all Hospitality-Use Appliances (that use in office environments, hotel rooms, hotel lobbies, and the like that are to be cord-connected to 120 V supply). All Hospitality-Use Appliances, other than Drip Type Coffee Makers, will require additional testing. The briefs of supplement SB:

• 4.1 Shall be with a grounding type plug, and detachable cord shall not be provided.
• 4.2 The flexible cord shall be SJT, SJTW, SJTO, SJTOW, HPN, HSJ or the equivalent.
• 4.3 The enclosure of electrical parts cannot be opened for user servicing with ordinary tools.
• 4.4 Shall be provided with a power-on indicator that is readily visible and distinguishable from the off position. If comply with item 4.5 (operates in 5 minutes or less), then need not be provided with such indicator.
• 4.5 Shall be provided with a manual-reset operating control that operates in 5 minutes or less after energization of the appliance to turn the appliance off when not in use.
  Exception 1: This control may operate more than 5 minute if complies with all of the following:
  • No keep warm feature;
  • Cause disconnection of all ungrounded conductors from the supply to all heating assemblies;
  • This control shall be trip free type, that is, the automatic tripping shall be independent of the manipulation or position of the reset button;
  • This control shall not reset automatically above minus 35°C;
  • This control shall be capable of withstanding a 6000 cycles endurance test.
  Exception 2: Such control need not be provided if complies with all of the following:
  • An electronic on-off push button switch and a keep warm feature are provided;
  • There shall be no control devices employing an automatic turn-on operation;
  • An automatic shut-off with a maximum 1 hour, after the heating cycle is completed, and a lock out feature, which automatically locks out repetition of the “on” function after the first cycle is provided. A deliberate act by the user is required to reset the unit.
