On June 17, 2024, the Governor of U.S. Rhode Island State signed Bill S 2850B to delay PFAS restriction in food packaging.
In June 2022, Rhode Island approved Bill H 7438A to prohibit intentionally introduced PFAS in food packaging and the effective date was January 1, 2024. In June 2023, the effective date in the law was postponed to July 31, 2024 by Bill S 0724A. On June 17, 2024, the Governor signed Bill S 2850B to further push back the effective date of the ban on intentionally introduced PFAS in food packaging by six-months to January 1, 2025:

Additionally, the use of a regulated chemical as a processing agent, mold release agent or intermediate will be considered intentionally added from July 1, 2027, if the regulated chemical is detected in the final package or packaging component.
