| Main content or requirements | On 4 December 2024, the new toy European Standard EN 71-3:2019+A2:2024 is published. The new standard has removed the de-waxing procedure from products containing grease, oil, wax or similar materials, allows the total migrated chromium (Cr) and tin (Sn) results to presume the compliance of chromium (III) (Cr(III)), chromium (VI) (Cr(VI)) and organic tin limits, and emphasizes that composite testing is a modification to the test method. The standard will be given the status of a national standard and the conflicting national standards will be withdrawn by June 2025 at the latest. |

On 4 December 2024, the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) published an amended version of the European Standard EN 71-3: EN 71-3:2019+A2:2024, Safety of toys - Part 3: Migration of certain elements.
The main technical changes are as follows:
The new standard EN 71-3:2019+A2:2024 will be given the status of a national standard and the conflicting national standards will be withdrawn by June 2025 at the latest. The standard is expected to become a harmonised standard under the Toys Safety Directive 2009/48/EC after it is accepted by the European Commission and is published on the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU).
