On May 14, 2026, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has published a direct final rule to update the Safety Standard for Toddler Beds (16 CFR 1217). The regulation shall enter into force on August 29, 2026.

According to the Standard, each Toddler Beds must comply with all applicable provisions of ASTM F1821–26, Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Toddler Beds.

A toddler bed is a bed that is intended to accept a full-size crib mattress and is intended for use by a child not less than 15 months of age and who weighs no more than 50 lb (27.7 kg).

This revision of the standard mainly changes the referenced product standard from ASTM F1821-19ε1 to ASTM F1821-26. The technical requirements and testing methods of the two versions have not undergone substantive changes; only editorial revisions have been made.
